Blog — guides on shipping, packing and India Post

Practical guides on shipping in India: choosing between Business Parcel and Speed Post, volumetric weight, how zones are priced, packing, and reading a tracking trail.

Business Parcel or Speed Post? A straight answer by weight — Up to a kilogram the two are priced within a few rupees of each other. After that the gap opens fast. Here is where the crossover actually is, and how to decide without a spreadsheet.
Why your 400 g parcel is being billed at 2 kg — Volumetric weight catches out every new shipper exactly once. Here is the formula, why carriers use it, and the three packing changes that stop it costing you money.
The four zones, and why distance is not what you think — India Post prices by zone, not by kilometres. Two parcels travelling the same distance can be charged completely differently — here is what actually decides it.
Packing a parcel so it survives a sorting network — Most damage claims trace back to the same four packing mistakes. None of them costs anything to fix.
Shipping economics for a seller doing 50 orders a month — At low volume, private couriers will not give you a rate and the counter queue eats your afternoon. Here is what the third option actually looks like.
Your India Post tracking has not updated. What that usually means. — A parcel with no new scan for two days is almost always fine, and the reason is in how scanning works rather than in where the parcel is. Here is the timeline that is normal, and the four cases that are not.
Tracking says delivered and there is no parcel — A delivered scan means a postman handed the parcel to someone. Nine times in ten that someone is findable within fifty metres. Here is the order to check in, and what to do on the day it is not.
What each tracking status actually means — "In transit" for three days is usually fine. "Item returned to sender" never is. A plain-language guide to the scan trail.
